ASCOT RACECOURSE – NEW RACEDAY STABLES

Client: Ascot Racecourse

Over its 300-year history, Ascot has established itself as a national institution, with Royal Ascot being the centrepiece of the British summer social calendar and the ultimate stage for the best racehorses in the world.

Burrell Foley Fischer led the design and delivery of a new Temporary Stable Complex specifically to support the increasing requirement for Raceday stable accommodation during Royal Ascot and to maximise the effectiveness of a challenging site.

The project, which was completed from inception in under six months for the 2021 season, includes a new stabling area with 30 boxes and associate bedding, feed and tack stores, along with a three bay wash down facility.

The complex planning situation at Ascot (green belt land under Royal ownership) meant that the scheme had to be essentially demountable, leaving a clear site outside the racing season. This combined with time pressures to complete the project for the 2021 Season, meant the entire design utilised prefabricated construction techniques using sustainably sourced timber.
