Burrell Foley Fischer, were invited to participate in a selection process for a Masterplanner and Architect, in a field of four. The Judge Business School was seeking to double its footprint on a sensitive central Cambridge site, building on a previous phase of development of the old Addenbrookes Hospital by John Outram.
Burrell Foley Fischer’s outline scheme demonstrated that it was possible to deliver the project requirements in a manner which, by transforming the setting of the building, would enhance the awareness of the presence of the Judge Business School in Cambridge. The scheme would create high quality external spaces around the Judge Building and enhance neighbouring buildings with improved aspect, sunlight and daylight.
The outline design would enable Phase 1 and Phase 2 to be built safely while the Judge Business School remained in operation, anticipated the University’s and Local Planning Authority’s sustainability requirements and responded to the Judge Business School’s aspirations to communicate its identity through its buildings and compete globally with its peers.
