Kingham Hill Masterplan

Kingham Hill Masterplan

Kingham Hill is a co-education, 11-19 independent boarding and day school in the heart of the Cotswolds. A real asset of the school is the fine quality of its stone buildings and mature grounds. Built around the turn of the last century in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the buildings still form a wonderfully coherent and consistent whole. In 2008, the 2020 Vision was adopted, seeking to grow the school numerically in support of its mission. Central to the vision is the need to maintain facilities that are of the appropriate size and standard. Burrell Foley Fischer were commissioned to undertake a careful and comprehensive review of the entire site with the school, which has resulted in a redevelopment masterplan, outlining a phased refurbishment and upgrading of buildings across the school, over a number of years.

The scheme preserves the coherence of the school’s architectural and aesthetic appeal as it progresses. Phase 1 of the masterplan encompassed the construction of a new maths and science building and is being followed by the conversion of an existing structure into a new library. This is just the beginning. In years to come, the school plans further improvements to their facilities: A new sports centre will be the next major phase of the masterplan, followed, in time, by relocating the kitchens and dining hall. The fourth phase will comprise the building of a performing arts centre, increasing the provision they have for the creative arts on site.
