RESIDENTIAL

SALTHOUSE MILLS

Client: Hiltongrove

Proposals for a new mixed-use development planned for Salthouse Mills, a brownfield former industrial site which was the home of Barrow Paper Mills for much of the Twentieth Century but is now unused. BFF have been commissioned to design a new ECO Village, overlooking Cavendish Dock and the Irish Sea. Proposals include around 700 homes, together with supporting commercial, leisure and retail facilities.

The clients ambition is to set the standard for UK Green Urban living, with 700+ new high quality eco-homes with low energy bills. These would be integrated with new leisure and arts facilities, waterside restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs, landscaped public spaces,

The development would have Zero Carbon targets, with Electric cars only and resident’s car clubs and bikes.

I am delighted to be part of a team comprising the very best in class from the fields of architecture, urban planning, landscape design, engineering and more, with the collective task of seeking opportunity in Salthouse Mills. We are at the very start of an exciting journey to see what can be achieved, and more importantly, to understand what the local community would want from any potential development. We are not looking to submit plans to build another housing-only silo, but to create something unique and exciting. Something that we can look back and be proud of.
